Due to the city history dating back nearly one thousand years, there are innumerable historical monuments in Prague. The city is dominated by the royal Prague Castle overlooking the Old Town of Prague, but a whole range of museums, theatres, galleries, concerts, churches, monasteries, monuments etc. are worth seeing and visiting, too.
We recommend:
You can start your walking tour at Petrin, which is only 1,5 km from our apartments. To get the top of Petřín Hill you can walk or take a funicular railway from Újezd. At the summit (318 m) you'll find besides the tower the mirror maze (Bludiště), which was built for the 1891 Prague Exposition aswell. Its classic kiddy destination. You can find near from here also the Štefánik observatory, nearby is also the Hunger Wall fortification built in 14th century.
Petřín tower is a copy of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was built for the jubilee exhibition in the year 1891. Petřín tower has 299 stairs. From the top there are wonderful views of Nové Město and the rest of Prague beyond.
When you're done visiting the Petřín area, you can take the funicular down to Leiser Town, but it is nicer and more interesting to follow one of the trails that lead to the Prague Castle or the Strahov Monastery.
Once in the Strahov Monastery area, you might wish to stop by a relatively new and little-known Museum of the Miniature at the court yard of the Strahov Monastery. Equipped with a magnifying glass or a microscope, your children can view such mind-expanding marvels as a caravan of camels in the eye of a needle, a prayer written on a human hair, or a grasshopper playing a functional violin.
Then you can follow to Loreta and Prague Castle.
Our district can be proud also for Brevnov Monastery - The oldest Benedictine Monastery in the Czech Republic. The present building and the Baroque Church of ST.Margaret nearby were completed in 18th century by Christoph Dientzenhofer. The church and Monastery are open on Saturdays and Sundays at 2PM.
